Today there is little to identify Berum as a medieval fortified structure. If my understanding is correct it serves as apartments now and while its setting is quite attractive I had to approach it several times before I could be convinced that this is the building I was seeking. I found no suggestion of defensive elements on the grounds. The water in the foreground may be a part of the original moat, for this was a moated castle.
The building, according to my documents is a remnant of the castle and there are columns and a rampart on the grounds. During the 30 Year War the building served as the headquarters of the imperial colonel Count Gallas.
