Reference to Bishop Tuto naming a castle Stauf

Donaustauf was built to protect traffic on the Danube (Donau) river as well as Regensburg. It was burned to the ground early in its existance and was occupied in 1161 by Henry the Lion. It was for the most part of its active history a bishop's castle.

Evidence suggests an earlier castle which may have been of the wood palisade type.
